USA Visa Sponsorship Jobs: Top 10 High-Paying Sectors Upto $100,000+ and How to Apply
A U.S. employer can sponsor a worker for a temporary work classification or, in a separate process, for an employment-based immigrant petition. Those are different filings. A high salary in a sector, and a company’s older petition history, do not by themselves produce a visa, admission to the United States, or permanent residence. This article keeps the ten sectors from the source draft and replaces the original salary bands and “verified sponsor” labels with figures and limits that official sources support. Checked 23 October 2026.
Two different sponsorship tracks
The H-1B classification is for a specialty occupation. USCIS says the occupation must require the theoretical and practical application of a body of highly specialized knowledge and a bachelor’s or higher degree in a directly related specific specialty, or its equivalent, as a minimum for entry.
The position must also meet one of the specialty-occupation criteria on that page, and the worker must meet the degree, license, or experience requirement for that occupation. Before filing Form I-129, the employer needs a certified Labor Condition Application, Form ETA-9035/9035E, from the Department of Labor. That labor-condition step is not the permanent labor certification used for many green-card cases.
Congress set the regular H-1B cap at 65,000 new statuses or visas each fiscal year, with up to 6,800 of those numbers set aside for the H-1B1 program for Chile and Singapore. An additional 20,000 petitions for people with a master’s degree or higher from a U.S. institution of higher education are exempt from the regular cap. Cap-subject filing uses electronic registration. USCIS does not treat a cap-subject petition as properly filed unless it is based on a valid selected registration for that beneficiary and fiscal year, unless registration is suspended. The cap-season page is the place to confirm the current year’s dates.
Some H-1B petitions are outside that numerical cap. USCIS lists workers petitioned for or employed at an institution of higher education, a related or affiliated nonprofit, a nonprofit research organization, or a government research organization. A hospital, a company, or a research job is not cap-exempt merely because the work is medical or scientific. The employer still has to show that the job is a specialty occupation.
EB-2 and EB-3 are immigrant classifications. USCIS says that, before an employer files those petitions, the employer generally must obtain a permanent labor certification from the Department of Labor. The certification addresses whether there are sufficient able, willing, qualified, and available U.S. workers for the job at the prevailing wage or higher, and whether hiring the foreign worker would adversely affect the wages and working conditions of similarly employed U.S. workers. EB-1 does not require that individual labor certification. EB-2 also allows a national interest waiver, and a person seeking that waiver may self-petition. A national interest waiver is a request to waive the job offer and the labor certification. It is not the employer’s H-1B petition, and a labor shortage in the occupation does not, by itself, meet the waiver test.
Schedule A is a further exception. For professional nurses and physical therapists, and for a separate group of people with exceptional ability, a Department of Labor-approved labor certification is not required. The immigrant petition still has to include the uncertified Form ETA-9089 package and a valid prevailing-wage determination described on the USCIS permanent-worker page. Schedule A does not turn a nursing job into an H-1B specialty occupation.
An approved petition, a visa stamped in a passport, admission at a port of entry, and permanent residence are four different decisions. The State Department says approval of a petition does not guarantee a visa, and a visa does not guarantee entry. Customs and Border Protection decides admission. How a work classification differs from permanent residence is covered in work permission, skilled migration, and permanent residence.
How to read the H-1B Employer Data Hub
The H-1B Employer Data Hub, as described on the USCIS page read for this draft, includes first decisions from fiscal year 2009 through fiscal year 2026, quarter 3. USCIS explains that the counts are first approvals and denials. Later appeals and revocations are excluded. Pending petitions are excluded. The year is the fiscal year of the decision, not the year the person applies for a job. Employers can appear under more than one legal name, address, and tax-identification ending.
A row in the hub is evidence that USCIS recorded a decision on a petition from that employer name. It is a historical filing record. It is not a list of open jobs, and it is not a statement that the employer will sponsor a particular applicant now. Search the legal name on the offer, then read the fiscal year and whether the count is an initial or a continuing petition.
What the pay figures measure
The source draft gave each sector a wide salary range starting near or above $100,000. Those ranges are not used below. Two official measures replace them, and they answer different questions.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics for May 2025, in Table 1, last modified 15 May 2026, publishes a national mean annual wage for each occupation. For most occupations that annual mean is the hourly mean multiplied by 2,080. It covers workers in the occupation across the survey, not H-1B petitions, and it is not a starting offer.
The USCIS report Characteristics of H-1B Specialty Occupation Workers, Fiscal Year 2025, with data accessed in October 2025, reports the annual compensation the employer agreed to pay when the petition was filed. The amount excludes benefits. It is stated on a full-time, 12-month basis, and the published percentiles are rounded to the nearest thousand. Across all approved petitions in that report, the median was $133,000. For initial employment only, the median was $103,000. A sector median below $100,000 can still include many individual jobs above that level. A mean above $100,000 can still include many jobs below it.
The wage on a specific H-1B labor condition application is the required wage for that job and place of employment. A national mean is not that required wage.
Ten sectors from the source draft
The ten sectors below follow the source draft. They are not an official ranking, and the employer names are examples to look up in the data hub. A name in this list is not a current vacancy and is not a promise to sponsor anyone.
| Sector | Roles named in the source draft | Official pay reference | Point that changes the application |
|---|---|---|---|
| Technology and software | Full-stack developers, cloud architects, AI engineers, data scientists, cybersecurity analysts | BLS May 2025 mean annual wage for software developers: $148,100. USCIS FY2025 median compensation for computer-related occupations, all approved petitions: $140,000. Initial employment in that group: $118,000. | Each job still has to meet the specialty-occupation test. Cap-subject employers need a selected registration before filing. |
| Healthcare | Registered nurses, specialized physicians, physical therapists, medical laboratory scientists | BLS May 2025 mean annual wages: registered nurses $101,420; physicians $277,260; physical therapists $105,280; clinical laboratory technologists and technicians $67,350. USCIS FY2025 medicine-and-health median: $92,000 for all approved petitions and $79,000 for initial employment. The 75th percentile in that group was $241,000. | USCIS policy is that most registered-nurse positions do not qualify as H-1B specialty occupations. A hospital is not automatically cap-exempt. |
| Finance and fintech | Quantitative analysts, financial risk managers, investment-banking associates, fintech software engineers | BLS May 2025 mean annual wages: financial and investment analysts $116,800; financial risk specialists $124,420. USCIS does not publish a separate investment-banking median in the FY2025 occupation table. | A software job inside a bank is still a specific specialty-occupation petition. An analyst title does not choose EB-2 by itself. |
| Management consulting | Strategy consultants, business analysts, operations managers, transformation leads | BLS May 2025 mean annual wage for management analysts: $113,790. USCIS does not publish a separate consulting median in the FY2025 occupation table. | An advanced degree may matter for a particular job. It is not a rule that these firms sponsor only postgraduate applicants. |
| Engineering and manufacturing | Aerospace, mechanical, semiconductor, and electrical engineers | BLS May 2025 mean annual wages: aerospace engineers $142,060; electrical engineers $125,100; mechanical engineers $113,610; industrial engineers $109,900. USCIS FY2025 median for architecture, engineering, and surveying: $124,000 for all approved petitions and $100,000 for initial employment. | A technical degree supports a specialty-occupation case only when the job requires that degree. Licensing, where a state requires it, is separate. See engineering qualifications and sponsorship. |
| Data, artificial intelligence, and analytics | Machine-learning engineers, prompt engineers, big-data engineers, business-intelligence architects | BLS May 2025 mean annual wages: data scientists $126,800; computer and information research scientists $153,930. USCIS FY2025 median for mathematics and physical sciences: $133,000 for all approved petitions and $109,000 for initial employment. “Prompt engineer” is not a BLS occupation in this table. | An EB-2 national interest waiver is a self-petition that waives the job offer. It is not the usual employer H-1B filing, and an employer does not “sponsor” someone through that waiver in the same way. |
| Pharmaceuticals and biotechnology | Clinical research scientists, biostatisticians, pharmacologists, research chemists | BLS May 2025 mean annual wages: medical scientists, except epidemiologists, $116,840; chemists $100,450. USCIS FY2025 life-sciences median: $89,000 for all approved petitions and $77,000 for initial employment. | A research degree can fit an employment-based category. The category, the labor-certification rule, and the H-1B cap still depend on the petition that is filed. |
| Academic research and higher education | Professors, postdoctoral researchers, scientific investigators, academic directors | BLS May 2025 mean annual wage for postsecondary teachers: $103,470. For this occupation BLS calculates the annual figure from reported salaries rather than from an hourly mean. USCIS FY2025 education median: $75,000 for all approved petitions and $72,000 for initial employment. | Employment by a qualifying institution of higher education can be outside the H-1B cap. The job must still be a specialty occupation. A university name on a campus does not make every affiliated employer cap-exempt. |
| Supply chain and logistics | Supply-chain directors, logistics analysts, procurement managers | BLS May 2025 mean annual wage for logisticians: $89,730. USCIS does not publish a separate logistics median in the FY2025 occupation table. The managers-and-officials median, $150,000 for all approved petitions, covers many jobs other than logistics. | A director role and an analyst role are different jobs for both wage and specialty-occupation purposes. |
| Renewable energy and environmental engineering | Solar-grid engineers, wind-energy analysts, environmental compliance managers, sustainability directors | BLS May 2025 mean annual wage for environmental engineers: $112,910. USCIS folds engineering jobs into the architecture, engineering, and surveying group cited above. | There is no separate green-energy visa. The petition follows the job duties and the employer. |
Technology and software
The source draft named Meta, Apple, Google, Amazon, Intel, and Microsoft, and said large technology employers process thousands of cases a year and pay all legal fees and premium processing. Petition volume has to be read from the data hub for a named legal entity and a named fiscal year. This article does not turn that history into a hiring list. Premium processing is optional. Current H and L fee categories, including the 9-11 biometric fee rule effective 9 September 2026 for covered employers, are on the USCIS H and L fee page. Dollar amounts belong on the current fee schedule.
Department of Labor Fact Sheet 62H says an H-1B worker can never be required to pay the statutory training and processing fee or the statutory $500 fraud-protection fee. Business expenses tied to the labor condition application or to Form I-129, including attorney fees and the premium-processing fee when they are the employer’s business expense, cannot be deducted where that deduction would drop pay below the required wage. That is a protection rule. It is not a finding that any named company pays every immigration cost in every case. A broader look at software roles is in when a software role can be sponsored.

Healthcare
The source draft named HCA, Cleveland Clinic, and Johns Hopkins Medicine and said many medical institutions are cap-exempt, so their H-1B filings skip the lottery. Cap exemption follows the USCIS employer categories above. This article does not treat those three organizations as cap-exempt. A for-profit hospital chain is outside the higher-education and nonprofit-research categories unless a specific petition proves a qualifying relationship, and even then the duties have to meet the rule USCIS applies.
A USCIS memorandum of 18 February 2015, Adjudication of H-1B Petitions for Nursing Occupations, says most registered-nurse positions do not qualify as specialty occupations because they do not normally require a bachelor’s degree in nursing as the minimum for entry. The memorandum says some advanced-practice roles can qualify. A USCIS appeal decision issued on 12 December 2024 restated that registered nurses generally do not qualify. Physicians and physical therapists raise separate licensure rules. For immigrant petitions, professional nurses and physical therapists are in Schedule A, Group I, which changes the labor-certification step and still does not approve the person. Nursing registration and healthcare jobs in other countries are separate subjects: nursing jobs abroad and healthcare jobs beyond nursing.

Finance and fintech
The source draft named Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Bloomberg, Citi, and Morgan Stanley, and said sponsors typically use H-1B and EB-2 to retain analysts. Those are examples to search by legal entity in the data hub. A quantitative or engineering role may fit a specialty occupation. A later green-card category depends on the degree, the job requirements, and whether the employer completes labor certification or a person separately qualifies for a national interest waiver. Working in New York or Chicago is not one of the legal tests.

Management consulting
The source draft named Deloitte Consulting, EY, PwC, McKinsey, and Boston Consulting Group, and described them as among the most prolific sponsors, with a preference for advanced degrees. Prolific is a counting claim. It belongs in a hub search for a fiscal year and a legal name, not in a standing label. An employer may require an advanced degree for its own job. USCIS looks at whether the offered position meets the specialty-occupation criteria and whether the beneficiary qualifies for that position.

Engineering and advanced manufacturing
The source draft named Intel, Tesla, General Electric, Caterpillar, and Boeing, and said these jobs regularly satisfy the specialty-occupation guidelines. Intel also appears in the technology list. A semiconductor, aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering job can meet the test when the duties require a body of specialized knowledge and a related bachelor’s degree as the minimum for entry. The job title and the industry initiative behind the hiring do not decide the petition. Where a state license is required to perform the work, that license is part of the facts of the job.

Data, artificial intelligence, and analytics
The source draft named OpenAI, NVIDIA, IBM, Oracle, and Salesforce, and said employers frequently sponsor candidates through EB-2 national interest waivers. The waiver is available to a person who self-petitions. USCIS says the person does not need an employer sponsor and does not need a labor certification. An employer that wants to keep someone in a job uses a different filing, usually H-1B for temporary employment and, if it later pursues permanent employment, an immigrant petition that matches that route. A machine-learning job can fall under the computer-related or mathematical groups in the USCIS report. A “prompt engineer” title needs a real duty description before anyone can say which occupation, wage, or visa category applies.

Pharmaceuticals and biotechnology
The source draft named Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, Novartis, and Eli Lilly, and said Ph.D. research profiles align with employment-based criteria. A research job may qualify for H-1B when it is a specialty occupation, and a later immigrant classification may be EB-2 or another category when the person and the job meet that category. Alignment is decided in the petition. Life-sciences compensation in the FY2025 H-1B report sat below the source draft’s $100,000 floor at the median, for both all petitions and initial employment.

Academic research and higher education
The source draft named Harvard, Columbia, Stanford, and the University of Michigan, and said higher-education institutions are cap-exempt and may file H-1B petitions at any point in the year. That description fits employment by an institution of higher education, or by another organization on the USCIS cap-exempt list. It does not fit every hospital, laboratory, or contractor that works with a university. The education median in the FY2025 H-1B report was $75,000, so this sector is not a $100,000 baseline. Postdoctoral and faculty jobs also differ from one another in wage and in whether the person is the beneficiary of an H-1B or of an immigrant classification such as an outstanding-professor category, which is outside the H-1B discussion here.

Supply chain and logistics
The source draft named Walmart, Amazon’s corporate employment, FedEx, and UPS, and said headquarters sponsor logistics analysts. Amazon also appears in the technology list because the same brand files through more than one legal entity. A logistics analyst and a supply-chain director are different occupations. The BLS mean for logisticians in May 2025 was $89,730, so the source range of $90,000 to $145,000 is not the national mean for that occupation. A petition still has to match the duties.

Renewable energy and environmental engineering
The source draft named NextEra Energy, Siemens Energy, Vestas, and First Solar, and said companies are increasingly open to sponsoring environmental engineers because of a domestic talent gap. Openness to sponsorship is a current hiring fact this article does not have. The legal route is the same engineering test as in the manufacturing section. USCIS also says evidence of a national labor shortage does not, by itself, meet the third part of the national-interest-waiver test.

How an application actually moves
The source draft put permanent labor certification, Form I-129, and Form I-140 in one sequence that ends with a visa stamp. Those forms belong to different benefits. Use the track that matches the offer.
For a cap-subject H-1B, the employer registers the person in the electronic registration period and files Form I-129 only if that registration is selected. The petition needs the certified labor condition application. A cap-exempt employer can file when it is ready to file, and the cap-exempt reason has to be proved. Form I-129 is the employer’s petition. A sentence about sponsorship in an offer letter is not that petition.
If the person is outside the United States, the State Department process starts after USCIS approves the petition and issues the notice of action. The person completes Form DS-160, pays the visa fee required for that application, and schedules an interview. Interviews are generally required, with limited exceptions, and a consular officer can require an interview. The officer decides whether the person is eligible for the visa. Administrative processing can follow the interview. H-1B applicants are in the group the State Department excepts from the general requirement to show intent to return home after a temporary stay. Citizens of Canada and Bermuda have a separate entry rule, described on that same State Department page, and still need an approved petition.
If the person is already in the United States in a lawful status, the employer may request a change or extension of status as part of the petition. The State Department says a change-of-status request does not require a new visa application while the person remains in status. Leaving the country can put the person back into the visa-application process.
For permanent employment, the usual EB-2 or EB-3 order is a permanent labor certification, then Form I-140, then either an immigrant visa abroad or adjustment of status in the United States when a visa number is available and the person is eligible. Schedule A and the national interest waiver change the labor-certification part of that order. An approved I-140 is not a green card. Permanent labor certification is not a step in the H-1B petition.
How to check a real opportunity
Start from a named employer and a named job, then match the legal entity to the data hub and to the offer. Finding employers that can sponsor is the general version of that check. The U.S. version adds the H-1B registration and labor-condition rules above.
- Ask which legal entity would file the petition, and which classification it is prepared to file. H-1B, EB-2, and EB-3 are not interchangeable labels.
- Treat a hub approval as a past decision. Ask whether this job is open and whether a petition has been filed or selected.
- Keep the required wage, the work location, and the degree the job actually requires. A sector average cannot replace those three facts.
- Compare any request that you pay the employer’s H-1B filing costs with Fact Sheet 62H. A recruiter who sells a guaranteed visa, a guaranteed green card, or a place in a lottery is outside the government process.
- Use the broader checks in how to verify a visa-sponsorship job and avoid recruitment scams before sending money or identity documents.
What can change
Job openings, wages, fee amounts, registration dates, and immigration rules change. The BLS wages in this article are May 2025 national means. The H-1B compensation figures are from approved petitions in fiscal year 2025. The data hub’s latest quarter, the cap-season dates, and the fee schedule should be reread on the day you rely on them. This article is general education. It is not a statement that any reader qualifies for a visa, a job, or permanent residence.
